Why Gaming
Possibly the reason why I got into computer science, and what fueled my love for computers in general. From building them to using them gaming has been a constant part of my life ever since I could remember.
Which Genres
Or perhaps a better question would be which genres I wouldn’t play. My younger self would identify most with the pixelated graphics of Red Alert or the jaw dropping 3D models of early Warcraft 3. My teenage self would tell you that I love competitive online games such as League, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike. All of which I’ve played at a very high level for years. Now my interest lies more with the grand strategy of the Total War series, or the breathtaking worlds of Baldur’s Gate 3 among other massive titles such as The Witcher and Mass Effect and much more.
Level Up
-
Team play. I learned the hard way over and over that most of the time being a team player and going along with a plan that the whole team is committed to, is better than each one of us on our own doing what we think is best. Often the team that wins is the team that sticks together. Work together or die alone.
-
Eye for Detail. More often than not it’s the little things that add that extra bit of flair that takes something that could be otherwise mundane into something special.
-
Expanded horizons. For all my years of gaming I’ve met people from all over the world. Gotten a taste of their cultures and how they are like, how similar our struggles are and yet how profoundly different we all experience them. It is an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
